ras al khaimah — An Arab girl suffered minor injuries after falling down from a sloppy area of the Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the country.

Major Tariq Al Sharhan, head of the ambulance and rescue section of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the mishap took place late on Friday.

A rescue team was dispatched to the site after receiving information about the fall and found the girl stuck in a rough, deep and narrow area. The team could not reach the girl by foot, and the air wing was informed. However, it proved difficult for the chopper to reach the rocky place.

A team of mountaineers from the RAK Police was then pressed into action. “The team managed to climb down to the injured girl who could not move and rescued her,” said Major Al Sharhan.

The young girl was then shifted to the nearest hospital.

The Air Wing Section of the RAK Police has carried out over 60 search and rescue operations across the emirate this year so far. “All mountain-goers, tourists and workers are urged to be more cautious at these areas and take all precautionary measures for their safety,” said Wing Commander Saeed Rashid Al Yamahi, head of the Air Wing Section.

“What makes our job more difficult, when looking for a missing person here, is the insufficient or unclear information, the sloppy mountainous areas and unstable weather conditions.”

Late in June, the section rescued three Asian climbers after they lost their way on top of a mountain in the Ghalila Valley, Al Yamahi said.
