2,000 women screened for breast cancer

abu dhabi — Healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi organised various activities to raise awareness on breast cancer throughout October, the month marked globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Initiative­s held in the Capital attracted thousands of participan­ts and ranged from social gatherings to health talks, seminars and sports activities.

Taking part in the nation-wide activities and in cooperatio­n with the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD), Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children attracted over 2,100 women in its series of health talks, and communicat­ed with over 6,000 individual­s during different public events. The hospital was also lit pink throughout the month of October.

1,000 female students participat­ed in various activities in schools

Aiming to reach out to girls in the younger age group, the hospital partnered with a number of universiti­es including New York University Abu Dhabi and Paris Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and different schools including GEMS Academies, Al Mamoura Academy, a number of government schools, and others. Over 1,000 female students took part in the activities.

The hospital distribute­d over 6,000 leaflets about breast selfexamin­ation and the importance of early detection.
