Willows win UAQ’s Weekend Night Cricket tournament

umm al quwain — Willows Cricket Club put up an impressive performanc­e to defeat Brother Gas CC by four wickets to clinch the Weekend Night Cricket Feast – Season 1 title at the Umm Al Quwain grounds.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Brother Gas openers had a relatively decent start with Adnan Khan (15, 10b, 3x4) and Bahadur Ali (24, 18b, 2x4) providing brief cameos.

Sabreesh further consolidat­ed the innings with a gritty 13-ball 23 supported by four boundaries and a six. Few quick wickets in the middle order derailed Brother Gas progress before Faheem Shafiq and Mohammad Hamza revived the innings with some wishful hitting.

Hamza was in an aggressive mood as he smashed 25 in just 15 deliveries supported by three fours and a six while Faheem remained unbeaten till the end to hit a crucial 24 from 21 deliveries containing two boundaries. Man of the match: Shahid nawaz of Willows. reach 133 all out in 17 overs. Shahid Nawaz was the pick of the bowler scalping three wickets in his four overs conceding only 23 runs. Nabil Iqbal also picked three wickets but gave away 37 runs in the four overs he bowled.

Owais Ali was the other bowler to excel with the ball claiming two wickets. Chasing a relatively easier target, Willows Cricket Club lost a quick wicket but Sharaz Ahmad and Ebrahim Jalal kept the chase going. Ahmad fired four fours and a six during his 13-ball stay to smash 27 runs while Jalal faced 39 deliveries to reach a slow 23 supported by a lone boundary. A few quick wickets did put Willows Cricket Club in a state of bother, but Shahid Nawaz, who later earned the man of the match for his allround show, along with Shamroz Khan finished off the chase with no much fuss.

Nawaz was unbeaten on 21 from only 10 deliveries finding the fence on two occasions.
