sharjah — The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Sharjah has renovated up to 2,753 road signboards.

The project, being carried out on a regular basis to boost the concept of safe roads, has been completed at a cost of Dh2.5 million, according to Hamad Al Nuaimi, head of road signboards section, RTA Sharjah.

“The scheme is one of the efficient solutions adopted to meet urban expansion and attract more investments to the emirate.”

Some of the signboards renovated are for traffic purposes while some others are for guidance, he explained. “Some boards were lit as per the latest international standards to ensure clear visibility during night under different weather conditions.”

All the signboards are made of super reflective aluminum plates and are installed on galvanised non-rusting posts, he said.

Al Nuaimi added that some of the signboards were completely replaced with new ones. “The posts of others were replaced, cleaned, reinstalled or repainted.”

Official records show that up to 1,015 new signboards have been installed this year so far. “These include 857 traffic signboards, 140 guiding boards while 1,738 others have received a facelift.”

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has deployed a big number of field inspectors to keep an eye on all the road signboards and do necessary maintenance or replacement, he underlined.

“The public is urged to reach the RTA Sharjah Call Centre at 600525252 for feedbacks, report affected signboards, and even recommend the installation of new ones.”
