- Marie Nammour

dubai — A grocery worker accused of sexually assaulting a homemaker at her place was sentenced to three months in jail on Wednesday.

Public prosecution records show the 23-year-old Indian attacked the British woman who was then by herself in the garden. He kissed and touched her against her will. He fled when she said she would call the police.

He earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge in the Court of First Instance. The court ordered his deportation after serving his time. The complaint was filed on May 31 at Bur Dubai Police Station.

The 35-year-old woman, who said she made some orders from the nearby grocery, told the prosecutor: “When the delivery man arrived I let him enter my house garden.

“I paid him the money and took the bags but all of sudden he jumped on me making me fall down. He tried to kiss me on the neck, grope me and touch me all over.”

She pushed him away telling him she would call the police. That made him leave her. She informed her

husband and he called the police.

“We went to the woman’s house on that day. She looked as if she had been drinking alcohol. She told us the accused sexually assaulted her,” a policeman told the prosecutor.

However, the accused told the cops after his arrest at the grocery that the woman invited him to drink with her. The officer said in his statement that the accused had claimed that she made up the story that he sexually assaulted her when he rejected her invitation.

A biological expert’s report said the defendant’s DNA traces were found on the woman’s neck. This could only result from touching, kissing or biting.

The worker may appeal the ruling within 15 days.
