sharjah — Fourteen Asian men have been charged at the Sharjah Shariah Court for killing two compatriots by assaulting them with iron rods.

The court, presided by Judge Hussain Al Ousofi, heard the statements of the 12 accused over the heinous crime that was reported from Sharjah’s Al Saga area 10 months ago.

The suspects were drunk when they hit the two victims with iron rods following a dispute. Two others were seriously injured in the attack.

During the court hearing they confessed to the crime and said that they were drunk and did not mean to kill the two victims

They asked the court for grace period so that they can get in touch with the families of the two victims to seek pardon from them and arrange the blood money.

The court adjourned the case to March 1 to hear the testimony of witnesses and also to allow the suspects to contact families of the victims.

The accused 13 and 14 requested the court to release them on bail as the accused No.12 admitted that the other two suspects did not participate in the crime and they were only present at the site of the incident. They added that despite being innocent, they have been languishing in jail for 10 months.

The Operation Room of the Sharjah Police received information on January 10 that two Asians were found dead. The police rushed to the site and found that victims’ heads were smashed by a sharp tool.

The police cordoned the area and carried out an investigation and arrested the suspect. They referred the dead bodies to forensic department and rushed the injured to Kuwaiti hospital for treatment
