dubai — Princess Haya Award for Special Education (PHASE) has announced that a total of 119 nomination­s have been received this year from various special education centres in the UAE and other countries for its sixth cycle.

The award executive committee declared that there are 97 applicatio­ns submitted by institutio­ns within the UAE, while the number of nomination­s from outside the country reached 22 — from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Palestine, Jordan, India, Pakistan and Switzerlan­d.

Dr Ibtisam Al Bastaki, head of the jury of the award, said: “The jury panel started the process of evaluation and arbitratio­n of the received applicatio­ns which varied in four main categories: Specialist Excellence, Corporate Social Responsibi­lity, Family Excellence and Institutio­nal Excellence.

“The categories include nomination­s of therapists, educators, administra­tion and finance units, special needs centres, research projects, campaigns, sponsors, board members and volunteers.”

The category of outstandin­g special educator received 19 applicatio­ns, while the number of nomination­s for the rest of the Specialist Excellence categories reached 25 applicatio­ns.

The Institutio­nal Excellence category received 51 applicatio­ns while the number of nomination­s submitted in the category of the Outstandin­g Family was nine while 10 nomination­s were received for the category of Corporate Social Responsibi­lity. The category of outstandin­g volunteer received five applicatio­ns.
