ajman — An 11-month-old baby boy, who slipped and fell from a fifth floor window on Sunday morning, has a broken spine and several fractures, but is now in a stable condition, a top official has said.

The boy’s mother had jumped after him after he slipped and died trying to save him.

The incident was reported from Al Jazeera building in Ajman’s Al Nuaimiya area.

Saleh Hamad Al Junaibi, director of Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman, said the baby is recuperating in the intensive care unit.

The child’s case was transferred to the Ajman Police for investigation, for the necessary legal procedures. The Director of police stations, Lt. Colonel Ali Jabr Al Shamsi, said that their operations room received a call regarding the fall of a woman and an infant from the fifth floor of a residential building on Sunday morning.

On reaching the site, the police patrol found that the mother had died on the spot, but was holding her baby — who was still alive. The infant was rushed to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital. He has serious injuries in several parts of his body, while the mother died with multiple fractures and serious injuries from the severity of the fall and impact on the ground.

The police also stated that the husband of the woman said she was suffering from depression, and was getting treatment for it at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital and Central Private Hospital in Sharjah. The man works as the director of a company in Dubai and brought his wife to the UAE on a visit visa in 2016. Later, she delivered her baby in Al Qassimi hospital.

On Sunday morning, he had gone to the Immigration department to fix the visa status of his wife and child, after which he headed to work. He then received a call from the police about the tragic incident.

After finding that their apartment’s door was locked from inside and lifting finger prints from the scene, the police say there is no criminal motive in the incident.
