Luca, Maria win; Jr Borg falters

Italy’s Luca Nardi and Maria Timofeeva of Russia won the Les Petits As junior tournament, just days after the son of Swedish legend Bjorn Borg had been knocked out.

Nardi, 14, beat Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic 6-2, 7-5 for the boys title while 13-year-old Timofeeva downed Ukraine’s Dasha Lopatetskaya 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the girls event. Leo Borg, 13, won his first round tie against Giorgio Tabacco but was defeated by Konstantin Zhzhenov of Ukraine. —
