Rash decision?
As the dust settles and life moves to normalcy post-demonetisation in India, it is an agreed thing among our leaders that demonetisation will help reduce cash transaction and move the country to digital payments. Then again, this reminds me that some decades ago the arrival of the Internet and emails was also foreseen as a way to reduce the use of paper and moving to a dotcom world. However, studies show that with the advent of emails, the actual use of paper has increased manifold with constant printouts and our obsession with hard copies, thereby having the opposite effect. Yet, it is common for our leaders to presume and preach without actually thinking and studying the subject, or before taking rash decisions. — Valent Mascarenhas, by email
