Mawaqif parking system made easier for Capital residents

- Staff Reporter

abu dhabi — As part of its efforts to overcome parking space issues in the Capital, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT) has announced that a number of sectors has been merged since January 1.

Permit holders will now be able to park their vehicles in any of the sectors after the recent merge.

“This step is part of Mawaqif ’s strategy to come up with sustainable solutions to parking problems by increasing the number of parking spaces,” said Mohammed Hamad Al Muhairi, Director of Mawaqif.

“Adding more parking spaces will help the public easily find spaces to stop their vehicles and prevent random parking that causes hindering the traffic and ruining the general appearance of the emirate.” In sector E16, E16-1 and E16-2 were merged together while sectors E18-1, E18-2 and E18-3 were merged in E18. Sector E19 was merged with W14-2, sector W12 with W10 and Sector E1 was merged with E2. According to the ITC, permit holders of any of the aforementioned sectors can use any of the available parking spaces within the merged blocks.

However, permit holders of sector W7-1 can use parking spaces in W7-2, but not the other way. In addition, permit holders of sector E9-2 are allowed to use parking spaces in E7 and E9-1. Similarly, permit holders of sector E20-2 are allowed to use parking spaces in W15-2.

“Merging the sectors aims to upgrade the transportation infrastructure by dedicating effective and integrated solutions to the public. This way, finding a parking space is easier,” stated Al Muhairi.

He also mentioned that it is illegal to park on yellow and grey markings, in the middle of the road, drop off and pick up points, pedestrian crossings, access points and fire hydrants. In addition to that, he said that inspectors are available in the aforesaid sectors to assure following the regulations.
