-

ajman — Considering the current weather conditions in the UAE, the Ajman Municipality has asked the construction companies that are carrying out construction projects in the emirate to strictly observe safety regulations.

The civic body said companies should take strict measures to ensure the safety of their cranes and other building equipment to avoid any accidents. The move came after an incident in which a crane fell from an under-construction building due to the wind and caused damage to 12 cars.

Mohammed bin Omair, executive director of the engineering department at the Ajman Municipality, said that the municipality has sent circulars to all contracting and consulting companies operating in the emirate to ensure safety of the cranes, external elevators and all other equipment and to instal protection walls at the site.

He explained that the municipality had already put up a special plan to face emergency issues related to rain, which include preparing water pumping equipment, deploying workers to clean up the drainage pipes that help the flow of water and prevent clogging of rain water.

“The municipality also receives call from the residents about clogging of water in their areas and immediately sends its workers to address the issue.”

Bin Omair explained that workers of the emergency teams have been deployed in various parts of the city round the clock. The teams follow the local weather forecast and accordingly plan their duties.

They also ensure the flow of the rain water through proper drainage system during heavy rain to prevent water clogging on vital roads.

He added that the municipality makes efforts to provide maintenance to water pumping plants and mobile pumping machines and all equipment used in facing rain-related problems to ensure safety and luxury for the residents of the emirate.
