Suspended jail term for forgery

- Marie Nammour

dubai — A legal consultant, accused of forging a health club membership card and later giving it to his girlfriend, has been given a suspended jail term of three months.

The Court of First Instance convicted the 33-year-old Briton of a forgery charge. The suspension of execution of the jail sentence will be effective for three years. However, the court has also ordered that the defendant be deported.

According to public prosecution documents, the accused made up the card by falsifying its details, adding his girlfriend’s photo and faking it in a way to make it look as if it was issued by the administration.

The incident was reported on June 30, 2016, to the Port police by the building security guard who intercepted the woman after she presented a forged access card.

“I got a phone call from the club’s security guard around 2pm. He told me he stopped a woman before she could enter the health club as she had a forged membership card,” the Iraqi resort supervisor, 26, said.

“I went there and found the defendant had already joined the woman. The latter said she got the card from the defendant and had no idea it was fake. “The accused claimed he had the card issued by a printing house for an amount of money. He said he gave it to his girlfriend as a gift and souvenir and not to use it.”

The Criminal Evidence Department’s report found the seized card completely forged. The ruling has already been appealed.
