- Amira Agarib

sharjah — Mother of a student, who was murdered by his friend, refused to pardon the accused and demanded qasas (retributive punishment according to Islamic law) at the Sharjah Criminal Court on Sunday.

According to prosecution records, the accused stabbed the 18-year-old victim with a knife in Al Nabaa area.

The mother told Khaleej Times that the victim was the eldest of her four children. On the day of the incident, the accused called her son, who was studying in a higher secondary school, and invited him to his place. “He told me that he will go to his friend’s place and will be back within an hour. But he did not return on time and when I tried to call him, he did not answer the phone.”

She said she was worried and felt that something had happened. She collapsed when the police informed her that her son was stabbed to death during a fight with his friend. She said that the accused said during the police interrogation that he stabbed her son after he abused and insulted him.

The operations room of the Sharjah Police received information that a youth was stabbed on the main road. So the police rushed to the scene and shifted the victim to the Kuwaiti hospital, but he died due to severe injuries.

Then the police arrested the 19-year-old friend who confessed to killing the victim on self-defence. The accused approached the family of the victim to get a pardon.

He requested presiding judge Hussain Al Ousofi to give him more time so that he can convince the family to pardon him and to accept the blood money. The case has been adjourned to end of April.
