Physical education in schools is crucial for a child to have a wellbalanced lifestyle. Many schools focus and stress on academics but tend to fall short on physical education or after-school programmes.

Implementing and having physi- cal education classes in school allows a child to stay physically active and learn about the fundamentals of various sports, that they could take a liking to later on.

Allowing a child to stay active at a young age sets the pace for their future. A child who plays sports, moves and is busy, will eventually be an adult who stays active, moves and is busy.

Physical education in schools also teaches children social skills that they cannot get in a class room setting. How to win or how to lose. How to win with respect, to cheer for their friends, to be a part of a team, how to lose with dignity. This is what sportsmanship is all about. Children also learn to sympathise and emphasise through sports and team work.

Physical activity also allows a child to increase their concentration and focus — allowing blood to flow to the brain, allowing the body to learn to work with the brain.

Self-confidence is also achieved with physical education. Something so little as in setting a task or goal and allowing a child to achieve it, especially in a short period gives a child direct happiness and a feeling of accomplishment. Like kicking a ball for example — a simple goal will make a child feel accomplished.

With child obesity, bullying and children easily becoming influenced to do wrong are at a rise, sports can be a great answer. Children need to feel that they belong and they are accepted. This can easily be done by a sport or by being apart of a team. Physical activity simply gives a child a purpose, an outlet and releases stress while allowing them to be healthy.
