Stunt driver arrested in Sharjah
sharjah — The Sharjah Police have arrested a young Emirati man who performed stunt driving during night on a Sharjah road to celebrate his relative’s wedding. The police were alerted after a video of his performance went viral on social media.
Col Ahmed Saeed Al Naoor, Deputy Director of Traffic Department in Sharjah, said that the video showed the driver performing dangerous and reckless stunt during the middle of the night. He was driving the car on two wheels, posing danger to the safety of himself and others.
After receiving the footage, the police formed a team comprising patrols, traffic and Criminal Investigation Department officers who launched a search for the driver. Soon, the police managed to trace him and upon arrest, it was found that the suspect had made modifications on his car without getting approval from the authorities. He had also changed the original colour of the car and removed its number plates. “He had also committed many traffic violations that would expose him to tough legal action,” Col Al Naoor said, adding that the case has been referred to public prosecution.
During the interrogation, the suspect said that he performed stunt to celebrate his relative’s wedding, and he drove the car without number plate to avoid getting noticed. Col Al Naoor warned the youths against practising such illegal activities which threaten the lives of themselves and other people.
