dubai — Two Indian men, accused of hiding the body of their friend who died of heroin overdose, were both sentenced to two years in jail on Monday.

The Court of First Instance found the two men, both employees aged 22, guilty of dumping their compatriot friend’s body in a remote location in Al Aweer and also convicted them of using drugs.

They pleaded guilty earlier to all charges at the court. They will be deported after completing their jail time. The case dates back to January 15 and was reported to Al Rashidiyah police station. The body was discovered under a tree off Al Aweer road.

“I was informed that the body was dumped in a way that suggested foul play. It was left under a tree and the forensic experts could identify it by DNA. It belonged to an Indian man,” a police sergeant told the investigators.

“We learned he worked as a driver for a transportation company. On the night he died, he was with four other Indians. We arrested a suspect from the International City. He said they had been drinking alcohol in Al Madam area when a runaway accomplice suggested they take heroin.”

The sergeant added: “Shortly later, the deceased felt sick and started vomiting. They carried him to their car and were to take him to hospital. But he died on the way. They got rid of the body under a tree off Al Aweer road.”

The police learned later that the main accused had left the country after the incident. The defendants may appeal the ruling within 15 days.
