It’s parents who make a child victor or victim

- Ankita Chaturvedi

sharjah — Behind every powerful and successful personality there is a polished mentor (parents), perfect guide or an encouraging teacher, according to Rahul Kapoor, a motivational speaker from India. It is very important for parents and teachers to nurture young minds with love and care and lots of patience.

In an event organsied at DPS, Sharjah on Saturday, Kapoor addressed around 900 parents, he covered the topics like ‘nurturing inquiring minds’ (parents of KG students) and ‘giving your child roots and wings’ (for parents of grade1-5 students). During the sessions of two hours each, he highlighted the role of parents in building up the child’s belief.

“It is up to the parents to see their child as a victor or a victim, they should conduct themselves in the best possible in front of them as they absorb parents actions, behaviour and usage of words.”

He also guided parents to build up a rapport with each other, a bond that can help the young mind to get the right environment at home.

“I think apart from giving a soothing environment to the kid, it is the responsibility of the parents to strengthen the child’s interests and not force him/her for anything, in other words they should not pressurise their children for anything. There are three types of children — A runner who will grasp things quickly, a walker usually understand 10 per cent in the first session then 20 per cent in another and so on, then comes a jumper who will understand and do things at his/her own pace, so parents need to be patient with such children,” he explained.

His session was a mix of science, psychology and spirituality which has logic and reasons to support what he was saying at the seminar. This was the 10th session of Rahul in UAE, but a first at the school, before this he has conducted discussions and seminars for corporate.

Vandana Marwaha, principal at DPS Sharjah, echoed the ethos of the school to bring up academically accomplished and socially responsible individuals by inculcating the right values in their students.

The speaker emphasised on how a child’s perception of situations and relations play a vital role in the building up the character of the child. He stressed that as the children work towards accomplishing themselves in their academics, building up their basic inherent character to grow to be responsible individuals to make a better society of tomorrow, is equally if not more important.
