Sharjah Police fine 13 jet ski firms, riders

sharjah — Following a crackdown, the Sharjah Police have fined 13 jet ski companies and a few riders for failing to abide by safety rules.

Major Faisal Al Doukhi, director of planning and follow up at rescue section of Sharjah Police, said that the inspection was aimed at spreading awareness about the highs risks of ignoring the safety rules that must be implemente­d by companies of the ski jet and the riders at the same time. They also warned the jet skiers who ride too close to the shore to follow safety rules to avoid fatal accident.

The police also launched an inspection targeting the ski jet companies to ensure they are following the rules and regulation.

During the inspection the police found that many of the companies modify the engines which could lead to accidents and disturbing the beachgoers, as it produce annoying sound.

He said that the companies must inform the jet skier about the guidelines and safety procedures

before renting. They must force them to use helmet to prevent skull injuries in case of an accident and fasten the belt. They must also ensure the quantity of the fuel, as there were cases of drowning, as the jet ski run out of fuel in the middle of the water.

Major Al Doukhi said that the police have deployed rescue units including ambulance on the beaches to respond to emergency situations quickly.

“The deployed patrols will not allow the swimmers and jet skiers to approach undesignat­ed areas.” He urged beachgoers to follow instructio­ns on the signboards to prevent accidents and drowning incidents. Parents also must watch their kids closely for ensuring their safety.
