Trio gets 10-year jail for kidnapping for ransom
ras al khaimah — The Criminal Court of Ras Al Khaimah has sentenced three Asian residents to 10 years in jail for abducting a man for ransom.
The trio was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh10,000 each.
According to court records, the accused had tracked down the victim while he was sitting at a café. The trio then followed him while he was heading home, and abducted him. Later, they called one of his friends and asked him to pay a ransom of Dh10,000 threatening to kill him if he did not pay the amount or reported the issue to the police.
The RAK Police was alerted that an Asian resident in his thirties was abducted. They formed a team of Special Forces Unit members and initiated an investigation.
Tracking down the abductors, the RAK Police, in collaboration with the Ajman Police, set a trap and arrested them. The victim was safely released from the hands of his abductors.
The suspects confessed to their crime during public prosecution interrogation. They said the idea about the crime came to their mind when they saw the victim handing over a large amount of money for his company.
The court, presided over by Chief Judge Sameh Shaker, found them guilty and ordered them to serve 10 years in prison, followed by deportation. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
