dubai — Two Pakistanis have been sentenced to six months in jail each on the charge of stealing cables from a construction site after subduing the guard.

The two men, both jobless aged 25 and 30, were with other accomplices, already convicted, on January 28, 2015, when they stole cables worth about Dh14,000 from a construction site in Al Khawaneej, Al Rashidiyah.

They also woke the security guard up, threatened him with a stick while they cut and stole the cables with sharp tools.

They pleaded not guilty earlier to the charges in the Court of First Instance. However, they were found guilty and the court ordered their deportation after serving the jail term.

The guard, a 30-year-old Indian, said he was asleep at the site belonging to a contracting company around 2am. “I heard a knock on the door and when I opened, three men barged inside. One of them had a stick.”

Two others followed them inside and were all covering their faces. “I saw them entering the warehouse and they carried cables and electric wires inside large bags they had brought with them.” The guard claimed to the investigators that one of the thieves then covered his head with a blanket and sexually assaulted him.

They fled the place about one hour later. He could not call the police right away because they also stole his mobile phone.
