Number of impounded cars increase in Ajman

ajman — The number of cars confiscate­d for various violations in the emirate increased last year by 1,438 in comparison to the previous year, a senior police official has said.

Major-General Sheikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ajman Police, said despite the decrease in the number of accidents and deaths caused by accidents, 2016 witnessed a significan­t increase in the number of confiscate­d vehicles which reached 6,469 compared to 5,031 vehicles in 2015.

The vehicles were confiscate­d as its owners committed various serious violations including jumping the red-light, speeding, driving in an intoxicate­d stage, failing of renewing the registrati­on, involving in fatal accidents, lack of insurance, over tinting of the windows and many other reasons. The confiscati­ons were done during regular inspection campaigns carried out by the Traffic and Patrol Department.

Due to the increase in the number of confiscate­d vehicles, the Ajman Police are working on a programme to ensure safety on the roads and minimise the violations. The programme includes intensive awareness campaign to educate motorist follow the rules in order to avoid tough penalty.
