- Staff Reporter

abu dhabi — A 2.4-km canal will soon add to the ranks of Reem Island in Abu Dhabi. The canal, developed by Aldar Properties, is undergoing final testing.

The commissioning work is underway ahead of its scheduled flooding in early April. The canal, which is in the Shams development, will run through the heart of the community.

The canalscape will feature 450 trees, covering an area of 46,000 sqm. The canal is crossed via 10 bridges. Residents will enjoy close proximity to this new water feature as 35 plots within Shams are positioned adjacent to the canal.

Aldar Properties chief development officer Talal Al Dhiyebi said Shams is becoming one of the most sought-after destinations in the city, thanks to the quality of the developments and its prime location on Reem Island.

“This new canal will play an integral part of the community, as it runs through the heart of the development, and provides many areas for meeting up, exercising, and socialising.” reporters@khaleejtimes.com
