227 wanted in different countries held in Dubai

dubai — The Dubai Police in 2016 arrested 227 suspects wanted by various countries and more than 13,000 others wanted locally for their involvemen­t in different crimes and financial cases.

Maj-Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of Criminal Investigat­ion Department of the Dubai Police, said that the number has increased by 13 per cent, in comparison with 2015.

“The suspects who were arrested over financial cases in the UAE were involved in financial crimes worth Dh5.1 billion. Regarding those arrested in coordinati­on with the Interpol, the suspects were allegedly involved in crimes worth Dh1.3 billion in their countries and were residing in Dubai,” said Maj-Gen Al Mansouri.

The Interpol also issued internatio­nal arrest warrant for 178 suspects, wanted by the Dubai Police in various countries, he said, adding that 97.1 per cent of internatio­nal warrants received from other countries have been executed by the Dubai Police.

He pointed out that the Dubai Police extradited an internatio­nally wanted Arab suspect, who was allegedly involved in 89 financial crimes including bounced cheque and fraud cases worth Dh153 million. He was wanted by various countries.

The Interpol have extradited 66 suspects who were allegedly involved in various crimes and financial frauds in other countries. This includes a British national who is convicted of 19 cases of child sexual abuse in England.

13% increase has been recorded in the number of arrested people
