Drive to conserve water, power
sharjah — The sharjah electricity and Water Authority (sewa), in coordination with the sharjah Women’s Union Association (sWUA) launched the “pioneers of clean energy” initiative to rationalise power and water consumption in the emirate.
As part of the initiative, sewa will install rationalisation devices in 30 homes as a trial and the sWUA will send its ‘pioneers’ staff members to to visit homes in order to spread awareness on the important of preserving water and energy.
Addressing a press conference held at sewa’s premises, Gada salim, Director of the rationalisation department, said they have 40% power and water use is likely to be rationalised
with this initiative selected 30 homes — 10 with high consumption figures, 10 of people with limited income and 10 more, to be part of the trial period. The initiative is expected to rationalise power and water use by 40 per cent.
she said that sewa has recently provided intensified training for the pioneers who are members of the women’s union to visit residents and educate families on rationalisation procedures and better use of energy and water. she added that this initiative aimed at encouraging people to adopt rationalisation as a habit and life tyle to reduce consumption bills, especially in the summer, when all residents’ complain of high consumption due to wrong practices.
sara Bin Karam, Director of sWUA, said that the body is always keen to play its role in community services. It provided training and education to 15 members to be pioneers of clean energy, in rationalisation and proper method of consumption. They were also trained on on assessing buildings and inspecting household electrical equipment, and visited power production, distribution and water desalination plants.
