Meet Sijo Cheriyan, 28-year-old male nurse from Kottayam, Kerala, who has been working for the Dubai Health Authority for more than three years now.
Sijo could have been like any other nurse, leading his mundane life but he chose to differ. With a passion to serve humanity, Sijo uses his spare time to make innovative and useful inventions. The sterilisation technician, who lives in Karama, dreams to invent a new system that can reduce abnormal humidity in the atmosphere and also control dust and pollution in the air. “‘I work with a passion to serve humanity.”
His inventions range from an automatic electronic alarm system at unmanned level crossings (an intersection where a railway line crosses a road or path at the same level) in India to an automatic wireless system for fire fighting.
“Using this system, if any unauthorised vehicle enters the track when the train is nearby, the driver will get an alert and can reduce the speed. It is currently used in the South Indian Railway on an experimental basis,” he told Khaleej Times showing communication with the Indian Railways and media reports about his innovation. Kerala State Disaster Management Agency has also acknowledged the young mans participation in the disaster risk reduction and applauded his electronic alarm device for railways.
His dream project — that he is currently working on — in Dubai is to control the humidity level in the atmosphere and once it is completed he wishes to submit it to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VicePresident and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. “My ambition is to present this humidity project before the concerned authorities here,” he told Khaleej Times.
He has also successfully made a useful tool for diabetic patients to keep their sugar levels under control and has submitted the findings in the form of a thesis for approval to an Indian educational institution. Since the time he was in school, Sijo said he was always very interested in science.
After hearing news reports about many cracks in dams reported from various water reservoirs of Kerala, Sijo is also working of making an electronic signal system, that can alert the safety engineers about the imminent dangers and make safety precautions for the dam.
