abu dhabi — Ahead of the first Unity for Security Forum in Abu Dhabi, the UAE on Monday announced a contribution of Dh197 million (€50m) to make the world a safer place for communities across the world. The money will go into the Interpol Foundation for Safer World, and will support seven of their projects, which are designed to combat global crimes, terrorism, cyber crime, cultural heritage looting, migrant smuggling, human trafficking and online child exploitation.
The two-day high-level conference held under the patronage of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will begin today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Brigadier-General Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director-General of the Federal Criminal Police at the UAE Ministry of Interior, said strengthening cooperation with all countries is crucial, as the world currently faces growing levels of threat and destabilisation. “The UAE has cooperated with the Interpol for seven projects that are funded by the UAE and will be implemented within the next five years.”
The seven projects the UAE has pledged to help combat include terrorism, cultural heritage looting, migrant smuggling, human trafficking, vehicle crime, drugs, illicit goods, as well as help protect vulnerable communities around the world.

“Time and time again, world events remind us of how increasingly important it is to stand united in the face of challenges to global security.”
He noted that UAE’s contribution will have a significant impact on strengthening the work of law enforcement worldwide.
“The threats posed by terrorism, organised crime and cybercrime are more complex and global than ever, requiring Interpol to play an even stronger role in international police cooperation,” he added. Elias Murr, president of the Interpol Foundation for a Safer World, said UAE’s contribution will immensely help fight global crime and terrorism.
“The UAE’s leaders have a strategic vision and Abu Dhabi is an example of security for all over the world.”
“We need to help improve the projects, we need collaborative cooperation, because as the end of the day, we all share the same objective, which is to succeed in making the world safer place.”
