It’s inspirational tour for us, say women

- Jasmine Al Kuttab

abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi Corniche has been transformed into a festival ground with eager crowds flocking to the Mother of the Nation Festival, which began on Sunday.

Amidst the festive pavilions and activity zones, one message stands out — of women empowerment and the inspiring story of one of the greatest women leaders of the UAE, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

The Mother of the Nation Pavilion, set at the centre of the event, is dedicated to the acheivements of Sheikha Fatima, and what she continues to achieve, particularly when it comes to women empowerment.

“Sheikha Fatima is known for being the voice for the women in the UAE, not just Emiratis, but all women, across all ages, ethnicities and religions,” said 27-year-old Emirati, Shamsa Al Qimzi.

“Attending this festival for me is not just about the entertainment aspect. Despite all the fun and colorful shows, it’s also to commemorate an inspirational woman and appreciate how the UAE supports and encourages its women, to get out and pursue our dreams and find ultimate success in life,” added the 27-year-old Emirati.

Her older sister, Fatima, who works as an analyst in government affairs, said she hopes Emirati girls will understand the values the Mother of the Nation has set for UAE women, and take these values with them in their future.

“Sheikha Fatima has always been a great inspiration for women across all ages and backgrounds, she represents the hard work women have accomplished.”

Whether old or young, the Mother of the Nation is celebrated by all women across the nation.

“I hope young girls can appreciate these visions and achievements and make the best of their future, because all the hard work and effort is for them and for their children’s children.”

A returning tribute

Maria Iqbal, a Dubai based artist, said she is truly honoured to take part in this year’s festival, which is a returning tribute to Sheikha Fatima.

“Sheikha Fatima is a symbol of women empowerment — she empowers all of us women and inspires us to do what we are meant to do, which is to live fearlessly and own our power,” said the 40-year-old.

During Monday’s festival, Iqbal hosted a workshop, where a team of women painted a luscious silk fabric, which will soon be transformed into a abaya, as a symbol of

“The world is my canvas, I love transforming everything around me, whether they are luxury items, accessories or even furniture.”

She said some of her favourite moments of the event so far have been the Majlis, where up to five speakers a day share inspirational stories and educational tips.

“The speakers have been so informative and are converging endless topics concerning women.”

“One of my favourite talks was of a woman who shared her story of how she transformed herself and her entire life, and how she went from obesity, to one of the most inspiring coaches in Dubai.”
