RAK Police carry out 15 rescue operations
ras al khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Police have carried out 15 rescue operations to help people stranded in the floods. The Air Wing Section was also roped in to rescue some people stuck in their vehicles and others at home.
“Most of the people rescued were children, women, and youth,” said Wing Commander Saeed Rashid Al Yamahi, head of the Air Wing Section. “We have flown eight times to rescue people stuck in their vehicles or houses, and managed to efficiently performed 15 operations to rescue people of different nationalities, trapped in the flooded valleys.”
The most difficult rescue operations was the one done late on Sunday when a 30-year-old young man was stuck in his car amidst the flooded Wadi Al Beeh, he added.
“The youth of Comoros Island was driving his four-wheel car when the floods washed his car into the deep valley,” he said.
A four-member rescue team airlifted the trapped young man in just five minutes and shifted him to the Saqr Hospital for treatment and medical care.
The department of public works and services here had, meanwhile, maximised its operations day and night across the RAK to drain the accumulated water.
Ahmed Hamad Al Shehi, manager of public services with the Public Works and Services Department, late on Sunday told Khaleej Times that the public services department have deployed 40 water tankers and 34 pumps all the norther emirate to suck out the accumulated ponds of water.
The department also attended to over 1,000 emergency situations. “These spanned road head shoulders landslides, flooded roads and farms, stuck vehicles, and uprooted trees.”

“Our staff workers have managed to drain out up to 42.23million gallons of rainwater from the roads of the emirate since Friday,” Al Shehi said. As many as 960 tankers were put in service from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon, he added. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
