One killed, 5 hurt in Abu Dhabi crashes

abu dhabi — A 21-year-old Emirati motorist died and five others sustained injures in separate road accidents in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

The Abu Dhabi Police said on their Instagram account that in one of the crashes on Thursday afternoon, an Emirati man was killed after his vehicle flipped over in Al Wathba area. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, lost control over the steering wheel and the vehicle swerved from the road before it overturned. The man was found dead by the time police arrived at the scene.

In another incident in Al Shamkha area, a 17-year-old Emirati sustained severe injuries after his quad bike crashed into a road pavement. The teenager was rushed to a hospital where he is being treated.

In the third incident, an Asian worker was mowed down by a speeding car as he was crossing a road in Mussaffah industrial area. The incident occurred on Thursday evening as the worker was returning home after the day’s work. The man was seriously injured and is still in hospital receiving treatment.

In the fourth accident, two persons were injured after two vehicles collided at the Shuwaib roundabout on Thursday night. The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment, where their condition is stated to be stable.

Also on Thursday, a car caught fire in Al Dhahirah area towards Al Ain. The police didn’t mention the cause of the fire but said the driver of the car managed to escape the burning car with minor injuries.

The Abu Dhabi Police have urged motorists to drive carefully, control their speeds and to strictly abide by traffic rules and regulation­s for their safety and that of other road users.
