What are some unhealthy foods you must avoid?

- Answered by Abel Csabai

My number one advice would be somewhat contrary to what most people would suggest. Instead of running down the list of the most processed, empty-calorie providing foods in the world, I’d suggest putting foods on a ban list according to a different criterion: The foods that you should avoid at all costs are those that regularly trigger you to overeat on them. Most people have one or more culprit foods. For some, it’s ice cream, for others it’s french fries, but it could also be nutrient-dense, healthy stuff like peanut butter or fermented oatmeal. I addressed this issue here. If you notice that you have a food that you just can’t seem to control yourself with, that’s something you should stay the hell away from. Beyond that, I would suggest something quite counterintuitive, first and foremost: adopt, and make friends with these very important terms: “Most” “Most of the time”, “Some of the time” In that vein, the picture looks something like this: “Most of your food should come from whole, nutritious foods, most of the time. Some of the time however, some of your food can come from pretty much anything you want. Believe it or not, no food item is going to impact your health in a negative way, if you’re having it in small enough quantities or infrequently enough. Most of the foods that you think of as “junk” are merely empty calories: they simply pose an unnecessary caloric burden on your body - thus leading to overeating - without providing beneficial compounds such as vitamins and micro-nutrients to your body.
