dubai — Digital signage technology has come a long way since its inception, and with the endless possibilities now offered by the latest OLED technology, the sky is the limit for designers, experts say.

Speaking at the LG Signage Design Summit, Audai Altaie, regional director of sales for the MEA region at LG Electronics, noted that digital signage is the technology that is the most interactive when it comes to planning the smart cities of the future.

“Our aim was to come over here and meet with designers because they are the ones responsible for creating the smart cities of the future,” he said.

“Many people feel that smart cities will revolve around the Internet of Things, but content and display will also be a big part of that vision. People will need to see data through digital signages.”

Speaking on the improvements in digital signage technology today, he said: “Before the design was bulky, but now we are talking about wallpaper that is mere millimeters thick and extremely flexible. Space is not an issue anymore, and the sky is the limit. The stage that we are in right now is OLED through which we have achieved beautifully vivid colours and clarity.”

The LG Signage Design Summit was conceived to showcase how design and display converge as well as highlight how LG is the forerunner for this change.

The event welcomed a plethora of seasoned professionals that consisted of designers, architects, engineers, and contractors across the region to witness the unveiling of the new OLED line-up of products that has the potential to redefine the architectural landscape Dubai and across the region.

The new line-up of OLED signage feature a variety of benefits that push the boundaries of a designer’s creativity and artistry. OLED technology enables screens to emit light without the need for backlighting for impeccable images with the deepest possible blacks and lifelike colors whilst providing wider viewing angles than conventional backlit displays. “By 2020, we cant even predict what will be the next big innovation that comes along in digital signage; only that it will come because innovation does not stop with one product. The key driver should be what people want; we have to let them decide what they want, and at LG we give them the freedom of technology,” Altaie said.

At the summit, LG also officially launched the region’s first-ever LG Signage Design Competition for architects and creative professional designers across the region to challenge the concept of artistic designs within new and existing commercial spaces.
