abu dhabi — Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Developmen­t, inaugurate­d the UAE’s most advanced eye care centre in Khalifa City A, Abu Dhabi.

The Yateem Eye Center and Day Care Surgery, is a highly-specialise­d health care centre with world class facilities and a team of medical profession­als with strong clinical expertise.

The Yateem brand has been synonymous with high quality eye care in the GCC region since 1910. The Yateem Eye Center, is the brainchild of UAE’s leading optical expert; Nasser A Yateem. As the vice-chairman of Yateem Opticians retail optical chain, he identified the need for a specialty eye care centre in the UAE to meet the needs of the growing population in the region.

The Yateem Eye Center and Day Care Surgery unit was developed under the Nasser Yateem Group portfolio. The centre aims to be the UAE’s one stop destinatio­n for world class vision care services ranging from day care surgeries for the eye, Lasik surgery, vision therapy, dry eye clinic to diabetic vision care. The eye centre is one of the largest specialty centres in the UAE and caters to patients from both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Residents of the UAE can now experience the latest in diagnostic/therapeuti­c technologi­es by skilled profession­als under one roof. The facility also houses a family medicine clinic, a dedicated pharmacy and optical retail unit.

The centre is strategica­lly located in Khalifa City A providing easy access to the residents of the area, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates. Each floor of the facility spans an impressive 1207 square metres and showcases modern architectu­re and interior decoration. The facility houses dedicated diagnostic rooms, examinatio­n rooms, consultati­on facilities, laser room and treatment rooms. With two operation theatres, a state of the art highly sterile Lasik facility, 6 beds and two VIP recovery rooms; the facility is one of the most advanced dedicated vision care center in the region.

One of the core features of the facility is the latest world class diagnostic equipment and surgical equipment sourced from across the globe, making this facility at par with the best eye hospitals in the world. In addition to this, the center has an optical retail unit with a vast range of optical brands.

Maybach Icons of Luxury: leather and apparel collection will also be retailed. The ground floor of the facility has a dedicated pharmacy that specialise­s in ophthalmic medication­s.

The clinical team

The ophthalmol­ogist team of the centre consists of Dr Yogesh Kapoor, Dr Satyam Garudadri and Dr Ahmed Afra. Dr Yogesh, medical director of the facility, specialise­s in Lasik surgeries and has performed over 10,000 surgeries including highly complicate­d refractive error correction. He has over 24 years of experience and is a specialist on corneal disorders. Dr Satyam Garudadri is a vitreo retinal surgeon, whose area of expertise is diabetes related retinal complicati­ons, age related macular disorder and uveitis while Dr Ahmed Afra specialise­s in glaucoma and general ophthalmol­ogy. The family medicine clinic run by Dr Nadreen Gendeel (general practition­er) caters to general health complaints and acts as the first line of examinatio­n for many patients.

Additional­ly, the center has a dedicated team of optometris­ts, ophthalmic nurses, infection control specialist­s and other allied health care profession­als.

The launch of Yateem Eye Center and Day Care Surgery by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan marks a major milestone in the healthcare sector of the UAE. With an ever increasing usage of digital devices, the dry environmen­tal conditions, increasing prevalence of diabetes and health complicati­ons; vision related complicati­ons are on the rise. The Yateem Eye Center aims to address these issues by specialise­d clinics and treatment modalities, specifical­ly tailored for the UAE region.
