Businesses honoured for excellence

41 winners of the Dubai Quality Award, Dubai Human Developmen­t Award, Dubai Service Excellence Scheme and Global Islamic Business Award honoured.

DUBAI — Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Internatio­nal Marine Club, attended the 23rd annual Business Excellence Awards hosted by Dubai Economy, and honoured 41 winners of the Dubai Quality Award, Dubai Human Developmen­t Award, Dubai Service Excellence Scheme (DSES) and Global Islamic Business Award.

Arabian Automobile Company (trade sector) received the Dubai Quality Gold Award 2016, while DP World (logistics sector), Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (free zones sector), Transguard Emirates (secured logistics sector) and aswaaq LLC (retail sector) received the Dubai Quality Award.

Sheikh Maktoum also honoured the Dubai Islamic Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Dubai Financial Market (finance sector) for winning the Global Islamic Business Award.

Sheikh Maktoum gave away the Dubai Quality Appreciati­on Award 2016 to Drydocks World Dubai (manufactur­ing sector), Dubai Aviation Engineerin­g Projects Corporatio­n (government), Aster Pharmacy Group (healthcare), Shapoorji Pallonji Mideast (constructi­on), Smartworld (services), Belhasa Driving Centre (services) and Wasel Vehicles Testing (services).

Sharjah Islamic Bank (finance sector) received the Dubai Human Developmen­t Award while Thumbay Hospital Ajman (healthcare), Barakat Quality Plus (manufactur­ing) and Al Ansari Exchange (finance) received the Dubai Human Developmen­t Appreciati­on Award.

Mansoor bin Mohammed honoured the 18 best service performanc­e brands from participan­ts in the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme during 2016. The winners were: Infiniti — Arabian Automobile­s Company (automobile showroom), Axiom Telecom, Cold Stone Creamery — Apparel Group (café), Damas Jewellery (jewellery), Dubai Financial Market — contact centre (contact centre), National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (banking services), Al Rostamani Internatio­nal Exchange (money exchange services), Dnata Travel Services (travel services), aafaq Islamic Finance (services), Intercoil Internatio­nal (furniture), La Moda — Pure Gold Group (opticals), Life Pharmacy — Life Healthcare Group (pharmacies), India Palace Restaurant (restaurant), La Vie en Rose — Apparel Group (clothing), Chic Shoes — Noas Trading (footwear), Grand Stores (general retail), Global Village (leisure and entertainm­ent), and aswaaq (hypermarke­t).

Five winners among DSES participan­ts who introduced the Happiness Meter initiative in their outlets were also honoured. The winner with the highest overall happiness index score was aafaq Islamic Finance, which also topped in number of happiness meter votes received from customers. Al Jaber Opticals, Arab Bank for Investment & Foreign Trade — Al Masraf, and the Apparel Group were the other three winners.

Sami Al Qamzi, Director-General of Dubai Economy, announced the launch of a new Award category under the DQA framework. Named ‘Dubai Quality Global Award,’ the new category will focus on global organisati­ons and will be introduced in phases, starting with multinatio­nals locally, followed by those in GCC markets and then worldwide. Receiving applicatio­ns for the new category will begin in Q4 2017, added Al Qamzi.

“The Business Excellence Awards have witnessed a steady increase in the number of participan­ts from the public and private sectors over the past years. The 2016 cycle of the Awards has seen a 35 per cent increase in the number of applicants,” Al Qamzi said.

Al Qamzi also announced the launch of a new category within the Dubai Quality Appreciati­on Award, to include business councils and. Business groups will be evaluated based on how they communicat­e with members, as well as for their sector leadership and ability to deliver value-added services. The evaluation will begin in the third quarter of 2017 and winners will be announced in the second quarter of 2018.
