Two men stand trial for stabbing cabbie to death

-

sharjah — Two Iranians stood trial at a Sharjah court, accused of stabbing an Indian taxi driver to death during a robbery bid.

The sharjah Criminal Court, presided by judge Hussain Al Ousofi, read the prosecution sheet to the two accused — identified as A.A. and S.M.

According to the court records, the accused travelled in the cab of the 26-year-old victim on January 20 last year. They lured him to a deserted area and stabbed him to death using a knife before stealing his mobile phone and clothes.

The Operations Room of the Sharjah Police received information that a man was found lying in a pool of blood in his car in Al Nahda area. During investigation, the police managed to identify the suspects, who hired the taxi of the victim. During the prosecution interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and said that the motive of the crime was theft. They also admitted to damaging the taxi of the victim.

However, during the hearing, the second accused denied the charges of robbery and murder. When confronted by the judge about his confession during the prosecution interrogation, he said he didn’t commit any crime, but made the confession due to pressure.

The case has been adjourned to May 25 to hear two witnesses. The judge also ordered to notify the lawyer of the first accused who did not attend the court hearing on Thursday. amira@khaleejtimes.com
