Making a difference
Ramzy Mon Alungal, senior marketing specialist at Xpress Money who is responsible for the Financial Literacy Programme in the labour accommodations, said: “It is fulfilling to see that we are making a substantial difference to the lives of our customers. I have been personally interacting with them for a couple of years. Many of them were ignorant about the risk in remitting money through illegal channels. Our programmes have educated them on the benefits of remitting money through formal channels and more importantly, its safety.
“Some of them used to transfer their entire salary, which ultimately gets used up in household expenditures. Through our initiatives, they have started saving a part of their salary while sending some of it back home. Many of them have also started investing in schemes to be able to educate their children and live a financially secured life after retirement,” Alungal added.
“Our programme was designed to promote financial security and inclusion by raising awareness among blue-collar workers — who can be at risk of falling prey to grey remittance channels and scams. Simple but important tips on how to save money are very well appreciated by the audience. We are happy to have made a small but essential difference to the lives of thousands of expats residing in the GCC,” said Ashwin Gedam,
