UAE Team Emirates’ Consonni bags podium finish in Morro Bay

-

dubai — Stage three of the Amgen Tour of California wrapped up on Tuesday with a strong performance from UAE Team Emirates’ rider Simone Consonni who was placed third in the sprint that was won by World Champion Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe).

Reflecting on the stage, UAE Team Emirates’ Consonni said: “I am very happy with my result and I would like to thank my team for their support. With Zurlo in the breakaway we were able to pedal as part of the bunch and save our energy until my other teammates were able to position me to launch my sprint 300 metres from the finish line. Last but not least I would like to also express my gratitude to Sports Directors Scirea and Pedrazzini for their confidence in my ability.”

UAE Team Emirates’ performance in stage three — which started in Pismo Beach and ended in Morro Bay — was remarkable with Federico Zurlo leading a five man breakaway for more than 150 km while Vegard Stake Laengen crossed the finish line in the top ten of the General Classification.

Commenting on the solid performance of the team, UAE Team Emirates’ Sports Director Mario Scirea said: “The entire team worked well during stage three. One of our goals for this stage was to have at least one of our riders in the main breakaway and Zurlo achieved that.

“Further, we are proud of Consonni’s performance that earned him a podium whilst competing against top sprinters. We are looking forward to the remaining four stages of the race.”

Racing at the 12th edition of the Tour of California are the following UAE Team Emirates’ riders: Simone Consonni, Yousif Mirza, Filippo Ganna, Marko Kump, Vergad Stake Laengen, Kristjian Durasek, Federico Zurlo and Andrea Guardini.
