Residents happy as Fewa decides to remove old pipelines in Ajman

- Afkar Abdullah

ajman — The residents of Ajman can breathe a sigh of relief as the issue of salty and bad odour in taps will soon come to an end with the replacement of old water pipelines in populated areas in Ajman. The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) has decided to replace old water pipelines at a cost of Dh42 million.

The project aims to rehabilitate the old networks in Al Nakheel, Al Nuaimiya and Rashidiya to ensure better quality of water, reduce water losses and meet the growing demand. It is expected to be completed within a period of not more than 90 weeks and includes the design, manufacture, supply, installation, inspection, operation and civil works associated with these lines.

An official from Fewa office in Ajman said that Fewa has already conducted water purification in various areas to solve the water issue to meet the growing demand of the public. The residents of Ajman welcomed the initiative saying it will solve the problem of bad odour in the tap waters which they have been experiencing for a long time.

Rabab Ahmed, a housewife who lives in Sheikh Khalifa Road, said that she moved from Al Zahra area to get rid of the bad odour and salty water from the taps. “We don’t drink the water but we used it for washing, cleaning and shower. It had a foul smell, maybe due to the old pipeline. I hope with the replacement of the pipeline, a better quality of water will be available so that cooking can be done using it.”

Jumana Al Taweel, a resident of Al Nuaimiya, said: “I’m very happy with the Fewa decision to solve the bad quality tap water. The poor quality of water caused a lot of hair-fall and I am waiting for the water issue to be solved to be able to grow my hair again.”

Ekhlas AbdullAzim, who also lives in Al Nuaimiya, said that he does not experience bad odour in tap water, but at times the water turns salty. They use it only for household works, not for drinking.

Hafiz Abdul Majid, another resident, said that the new pipelines will improve the quality of water and also prevent disconnection for long time. “It is good news for me because I will save a lot of money. I have signed a contract with a water company to deliver large quantity of water to my family for our daily use. I would like to thank Fewa for this decision which will make our life easy.”
