ras al khaimah — A two-yearold Arab child had a narrow escape after six nuts got stuck in his bronchial tubes. The little child was eating chocolate with nuts when his colour suddenly turned blue and he started coughing severely and suffered abnormal respiratory problems.

Having noticed their son’s unstable and serious condition, the panicked parents and relatives present rushed him to the Saqr Public Hospital for medical care.

The boy, identified as Osama Abdullatif Al Hariri, was admitted to the intensive care unit where he was subjected to intensive medical care for 24 hours.

Latewr, he was moved to the radiology section for scans. Mohammed Rashid bin Arsheed, the hospital manager, said that the doctors managed to locate six nuts blocking his air passage.

“They were stuck in the right and left bronchial tubes as well as the tracheal bronchus under the larynx.”

Dr Mohammed Shawakh, head of ENT section at the hospital, said the kid was subjected to a bronchoscopy.

“This is a procedure that allows the surgeons to look through a thin viewing instrument called a bronchoscope and remove the object stuck in air passage. The child was given medicines first, but his condition did not improve. So the medical team decided to perform a surgery.”

The child was put under close monitoring until he totally recovered and his condition became stable.
