Man charged with bid to molest 11-year-old boy

- Marie Nammour

dubai — A man, who allegedly lured a 11-year-old in the garden of his parents’ villa and tried to kiss him, was charged with attempted molestation in the Court of First Instance.

The 44-year-old Pakistani man (a heavy vehicle driver), however, denied the charge in court. He was believed to have gone to the villa on March 26, where he found the boy alone, and lured him outside and tried to kiss him. The boy, a Jordanian, said the man came around 10am and asked about the price of the next door villa.

“We went to the garden and there he put his hands on my shoulder and tried to kiss me on my lips but I pushed him away and ran back inside the house”. The boy heard the man saying he would come back.

He told his parents who then installed a surveillance camera that covers the villa’s door. On April 2, the man came again and knocked on the door. As no one answered him, he waited for a while before he left. The boy’s parents checked the footage and were told by their son that it was the same man who had come earlier.

The boy identified the accused at Al Rashidiyah Police Station among other suspects.

The boy’s 41-year-old father said: “The accused was asking general questions about the next door villa, its price and landlord. I installed a camera after my son told me about the incident. My son later identified him three times at the police station,” the father told the prosecutor.

The accused denied to a police officer during interrogation the boy’s allegations. He claimed he would often go to that area twice a week for work purposes.
