From America to Abu Dhabi to promote Indian art
abu dhabi — Lalitha Ramamoorthy is a multi-talented artiste. She is a vocalist, Bharathnatyam dancer and a dietitian from Michigan in the US. Being passionate about promoting Indian fine arts, she travels and teams up with local talents. Lalitha trains them to be part of her dance production.
Her troupe will stage Rtusamhara, a contemporary performance and an adaptation from the epic poetry of the Indian poet and dramatist Kalidasa. As part of efforts to promote Indian art, she arrived in the Capital recently and performed at the Indian Embassy Abu Dhabi, which was supported by 27 talented performers from Dubai. “My mission is to promote Indian classical music and dance. I have performed and held workshops in Dubai in 2014 and 2015. This is the first time I performed in Abu Dhabi,” Lalitha told Khaleej Times.
Lalitha is a registered dietitian by profession and teaching more than 50 students both dance and music for the last 17 years at the non-profit School of World Music and Dance in Michigan.
It’s uncommon to see an artiste with proficiency in Carnatic music and, classical and Bollywood dancing. Apart from the many stages in the US, Lalitha has performed in Dubai, Bahrain, Germany and Indian cities of Chennai, Coimbatore and Bengaluru.
“I strive to be different and bring in innovation and creativity in my work,” Lalitha said.
In Abu Dhabi, she brought to life the wonderful elements of Mother Nature during the six seasons – summer, monsoon, autumn, prewinter, winter and spring.
After her performace at the Indian embassy, she said: I got an excellent feedback from the audience. The artistes performed exceptionally well. The Indian embassy recognised my efforts with a memento.”
