Latham slams ton as Kiwis thrash Ireland by 190 runs

-

DUBLIN — Riding high on Tom Latham’s century New Zealand thrashed Ireland by a massive 190run margin in Malahide on Sunday. Chasing, New Zeland’s total of 344 runs for 6 wickets, Irealnd were all out for 154 all out in 39.3 overs.

Earlier, New Zealand smashed 72 runs off the last four overs to post the huge total.

Colin Munro hit 44 off just 15 balls, with three fours and four sixes, and Mitchell Santner finished 20 not out from nine balls as the Irish bowlers wilted.

Luke Ronchi ensured another fast start for the Black Caps with 35 from 31 balls but it was skipper Latham who held the innings together with his third one-day international ton.

He scored 104 from 111 balls with nine fours and four sixes, although he enjoyed a reprieve on 89 when he was caught at third man, umpires ruling it was a no-ball.

Both teams rang the changes with Ireland, looking for their first win in their final match of a series that also includes Bangladesh, bringing in Young and Simi Singh in place of the experienced pair of Kevin O’Brien and Tim Murtagh.

The Black Caps made four changes with Scott Kuggeleijn returning after missing the victory over Bangladesh, and there were first appearances for Adam Milne, Matt Henry and Corey Anderson, the latter two just back from the Indian Premier League.

Big hitting was expected from Anderson but the Ireland bowlers had done their homework on him and he scored just 14 from his first 22 balls.
