abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested five Asian men suspected of trying to smuggle 100kg of hashish and one million captagon pills into the UAE. They were caught in coordination with the Dubai Police as they attempted to bring the drugs through the Dubai Creek docking point with the intention of promoting the drugs in the country. The anti-narcotics team successfully completed the operation named ‘Destruction of a Boat’.

Lieutenant-Colonel Taher AlDhaheri, head of the anti-narcotics department at the Abu Dhabi Police, said that the anti-narcotics team had received information about a huge amount of drugs being hidden in the secret pockets of a boat that was docked at the Dubai Creek port. The police said that the smugglers posed as workers of the cargo vessel, yet they were trying to smuggle drugs into the UAE.

Al Dhaheri said a quick police response helped in the seizure of the drugs before they reached the local market. The investigations suggested that the men were intending to promote the drugs in the country. They have been referred to the public prosecution.

Al Dhaheri applauded the Dubai Police for their efforts in foiling the bid to smuggle the drugs and in apprehending these suspects.

He said their skilled and well trained team is always on the alert to detect and combat smugglers at all the country’s entry points and warned that those attempting to smuggle drugs into the UAE would always be caught and prosecuted.
