dubai — A 25-year-old jobless man, accused of kidnapping and trying to gang-rape a student, 19, with his friends at night in the desert after inviting him for a ride, has been sentenced to three years in jail.

The 25-year-old Emirati man lured his countryman after a short friendly talk to ride in his car. However, he drove to the desert in Al Warqa, where together with his friends (at large), they slapped and punched him all of a sudden. They tried to gang-rape him but the student fiercely kept them away. They also clicked inappropriate photos of him. They also stole the student’s car, his wallet with his personal cards and mobile phone.

The defendant was convicted by the Court of First Instance of charges of kidnap, attempted sexual assault, physical assault, taking inappropriate photos of the victim and theft.

“I was about to go inside an amusement centre around midnight in Abu Hail when I met the defendant and his four friends,” the student said. “I rode with them for a ride but he then drove to the desert in Al Warqa. They stepped off and for no reason started hitting me with their hands. They asked me to let them have sex with

me and then tried to do it by force. But I managed to stop them”.

They tried to choke him and he felt he was going to pass out. “They walked me to the road where an Emirati, who lives in my neighbourhood, told me he would take me home. I rode in his car. He tried to talk me into not filing a complaint against those men”.

“I was home around 9am on April 29, 2016, when I heard a knocking on the door. It was my son with another man. He looked terrible. There were injuries on his face and body,” the student’s father, a 48-year-old lieutenant said. “That man who was with my son said those people dropped my son to Al Mizhar. That man would not give me the contact details of those people and told me my son’s car was parked in Ajman.”

The exhausted student slept right away at home and only remembered about his car when he woke up.
