Worker faces retrial for murder bid on colleague

abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi Cassation Court has ordered retrial in the case of a worker who was convicted of attempting to kill his colleague with a kitchen knife after an argument.

The court cancelled an earlier ruling by the appeal court, which had reduced the 15-year jail sentence for the Asian man to three years after the victim reportedly waived his right for retribution. The court ordered for a fresh hearing by a new panel of judges. According to court documents, the Asian worker attacked his colleague with a kitchen knife near their accommodation on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. The incident occurred last year.

Investigations revealed that the pair had some differences and on the day of the incident, the accused stabbed his colleague in the neck and the chest while he was alone in a dark area. The victim sustained severe wounds, but was able to get quick help from other workers who called the ambulance that rushed him to the hospital.
