As many as 13 people were killed and 124 injured in run-over accidents in Dubai during the first quarter of this year.

According to Brigadier Saif Al Mazroui, director of the general department of traffic at the Dubai Police, the total number of accidents reached 114 this year, compared to 357 traffic accidents.

Brig Al Mazroui added that 30,818 people were issued violation tickets for crossing the road from non-designated areas in the first four months of the year.

The general directorate of traffic said in a statement that the Dubai Police are keen to curb the phenomenon through awareness campaigns and lectures offered to road users. The statement said this is because the lack of awareness about rules makes people cross the streets from non-designated areas. A series of campaigns will be carried out on the streets of the emirate to spread awareness among the road users.
