ras al khaimah — A 62-yearold Arab woman, who was injured after a young driver intentionally ran over her in Ras Al Khaimah over some disputes, has died.

The RAK Police have earlier arrested the erring Arab driver who also damaged the victim’s family SUV, and fled the scene after his crime.

The 25-year-old driver, who later proved to have a criminal record, had partially destroyed the vehicle parked in front of the victim’s house in Al Mamura area.

“The suspect ran over the old Arab woman on purpose, following which the victim received gruesome injuries,” Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said.

The victim was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Saqr Hospital in a critical condition, but she died two weeks after the incident.

Lt-Col Waleed Kanfash, chief of Al Mamura police, said they were alerted about the mishap on June 8, about 11am. “We were informed that an old woman had been shifted to the hospital after being ran over by an unidentified driver.”

Investigations showed that the erring driver ran over the victim on purpose, he added.

After the incident, the suspect then escaped the scene, but the RAK Police Special Forces managed to identify his hideout and arrested him, LtCol Kanfash said. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
