UAE’s digital surge puts it ahead in the region
dubai — The UAE is the only country in the Middle East that is featured in the top 20 of the Digital Competitiveness Rankings this year.
The country places 18th in the report released by IMD World Competitiveness Centre.
It advanced seven positions this year when compared to 2016, with the indicators for technology and scientific infrastructure included in the overall rankings.
This year’s Digital Competitiveness Ranking, however, introduces several new criteria to measure the ability of countries to adopt and explore digital technologies leading to a transformation in government practices, business models and society in general. — Wam
dubai — The UAE is No.1 in the region and 18th globally in the digital competitiveness index released by the World Competitiveness Centre, an affiliate of the International Institute for the management development in Lausanne, Switzerland, one of the most important colleges specialised in this field worldwide.
The UAE advanced seven points in 2017 compared with its 2016 ranking, ahead of nations in the GCC, the Middle East and North Africa.
It also surged ahead in the preparedness for the future index by moving from 17th position to seventh globally and from 20th to 14th place globally in the technology index.
The analysis conducted by the competitiveness task force of the Federal Authority for Competitiveness and Statistics showed that the UAE has achieved a distinctive performance in a number of them, including the top position globally in four sub-indices: cyber-security; efficiency of residence visa laws; use of companies of big database and analytical tools; and the power of companies between the government and private sectors.
The UAE, according to the report, ranked third in three subindexes of available of skillful foreign competent personnel, trends towards globalisation and available opportunities and staving off risks. The country also came third worldwide in the available of competent personnel with international experiences.
Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chairwoman of the board of directors of the Federal Authority for Competitiveness and Statistics, praised the role played by the federal and local government institutions towards achieving the country’s objectives and ambitions in the continuous process of progress and improvement for the technology infrastructure, support the training and development and nurturing the skills of employees in the field of information technology. — Wam
