UAE-backed Yemeni govt forces retake Marib areas

-

aden — Yemen’s legitimate government forces, backed by UAE forces operating within the Arab Coalition, have regained control over large swathes of territory in Serwah district in Marib province under heavy artillery fire and intense air cover.

The government forces retook control of several tactically-important positions in Serwah inflicting heavy human and material losses on the rebel Houthi militia and forces loyal to the now-ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh, stated a military source from the UAE Armed Forces.

The source said that the militants fled the fierce fighting.

The government forces advanced 11km into Marib province to reach areas such as Helan and Al Mashjah and retake control of Al Tabba Al Sawdaa, Al Tabba Al Hamaraa and Al Makhdara, the source added.

The liberation of Serwah is of special strategic and military importance because it cuts the rebel militias’ supply lines and increases pressure on the Houthi militants in Sanaa thus making the fall of the capital easier. —
