Residents dumped 13K tonnes waste during Eid
dubai — Residents of Dubai have dumped over 13,000 tonnes of waste during three days of Eid Al Fitr celebrations in the emirate, according to the civic body
Khalid Mohsen, head of the operation and cleaning service section at the Dubai Municipality, told Khaleej Times that 10,000 waste containers of different sizes were distributed across the city’s streets and congested areas to remove the waste.
He added that a team worked on a 24-hour shift throughout Eid to collect the 13,000-tonne waste. The morning of the first day of Eid from 5am to 12:30pm saw 18 supervisors and 345 cleaners deployed to maintain the city’s cleanliness.
The municipality cleaning workers were present in areas with the largest number of shopping centres and the department has also intensified the number of cleaning workers on beaches, resorts and commercial areas, especially in market areas.
The cleaning teams worked around the clock to keep the cleanliness of the city and operation rooms of the municipality will continue to work during the holidays to meet the public influx in parks, resorts and markets.
All the markets were open throughout the Eid, except for Naif Souq, Souq Al Shaabi and the Falcon Centre that were closed during the first day of Eid.
Mohsen said the department also received 30 complaints from people reporting neighbours mostly involved in throwing furniture and big house items outside their houses or apartments due to larger purchases during Eid.
Before the Eid celebrations began, the waste management department had started its preparations such as cleaning of all the Eid Musallahs to receive the worshipers and cleaning the streets and parks.
